"Viva le revolution"
Media
I used photoshop and a canvas with the dimensions of 11x17, there were also some pictures from the internet that are used.
Vision or Idea
I wanted to portray the view of an uprising of the people, symbolized by the hand rising up with the lightning bolt in hand along with the fire in the background. The Cuban revolutionary poster that had the hand that looked like it was flying upwards is what made me want to use a fist in mine as the fist is also a really powerful symbol. The text "viva le revolution" is what everyone recognizes as the start of a revolution, I also like the way it sounds, it makes you feel powerful.
Elements & Techniques
When I made this I was really into making pop out pictures, a simple way of explaining these is that it makes the picture look like is popping out of the picture.. The white border you see around the hand was manually made and had a perspective edit to make it look like the fist is coming out of the picture. The lightning bolt was also a beige color and I had to change it to make it stand out and give it an empowering feeling in the poster. I decided to do the pop out because it was what I was practicing at the time, and because it gives it a more powerful meaning if it looks 3D and is going upwards.
Connecting to Revolutionary Posters
We looked at Cuban, Russian, Chinese, Palestinian and Canadian and American revolutionary posters and a few of them had used the fist as a symbol of an uprising, and they used the fist in a way that can empower the people. That's why the fist is used in my poster, it is one of the most common but yet still one of the most powerful symbols.
